Trigger point therapy

Trigger points refer to knots and tension in the muscle tissue. They can cause local pain, but frequently radiate to other parts of the body, which may not be obviously linked to the original source of pain.

Active trigger points are very common and may cause pain during movement but sometimes also cause discomfort in a resting position. These type of trigger points are usually caused by chronic strain or one-sided activities such as computer work, traumatic overstretching or also exposure to the cold. Secondary trigger points are caused by functional disorders such as arthroses or damage to the spine.

Trigger point treatment involves applying pressure to the local trigger point to increase blood flow. This targeted technique loosens the point and relaxes the entire muscle.
