Postpartum physical therapy – After childbirth
Take your time and avoid putting yourself under pressure. Your body has just accomplished an
extraordinary achievement.
It is never too late for postpartum physical therapy, but you can start as early as 6 to 8 weeks after giving birth.
Postpartum exercises focus on perceiving, strengthening and stabilising the pelvic floor. Building on this,
the abs, back, buttock and leg muscles are also strengthened.
A strong pelvic floor prevents the female organs from dropping. The goal of the therapy is to develop a feeling for your changed body and better sense and feel it after giving birth. Postpartum physical therapy also helps reduce muscle strain and poor posture during breastfeeding.
With the growth of the belly during pregnancy, the abdominal structures are heavily stretched and pushed apart to the side. If the abdominal muscles do not go back to their original position, this is called diastasis recti. This condition is also targeted and improved by postpartum exercises.
I provide postpartum therapy in individual therapy sessions or in small groups.
